Who leads the ATM, and where is it on the ballot?
Where it is on the ballot
The ATM is on the IEC list in 212 of 257 councils, in all 9 provinces. This includes all 8 metros.
Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC). Published 16 September 2026.
Where to look: Party's own entries, sorted by province, municipality, then party. First page of its entries (PDF page): Buffalo City p. 7, Johannesburg p. 621, eThekwini p. 896, Cape Town p. 1927. Council counts re-counted on 18 Oct 2026 from a text extract of this file (Research: Parties); they match the earlier count.
Its main plans for 2026
The ATM calls itself "a Social Democratic Peace Party" and "a faith-based political party underpinned by divine values". Social democratic means it wants the state to help build a fairer society. Its mission is "to build a modern, inclusive, and socially just economy that combats corruption". For 2026 it promises to "restore integrity in local government", according to a post on its official X account. Its president, Caesar Nongqunga, said its candidates would put water supply first. Next would come infrastructure (the pipes, roads and other systems a council runs) and the ability to repair and maintain it.

What does the ATM promise in 2026?
Governance and money
Corruption: The ATM promises to bring back integrity in local government. It says councils should serve the people, not political interests. It promises that each rand of public money is used in the open. It would go to services and to help communities grow. In its own words: “ATM will restore integrity in local government so municipalities serve citizens, not political interests, and every rand of public money is used transparently for service delivery and community development.”

Where does the ATM govern?
The 8 metros
City of Tshwane: Part of the group of parties that runs the council. Its only councillor, Mncedi Ndzwanana, has been Speaker (the person who runs council meetings) since March 2023. He holds the post through a deal to share power with the ANC, EFF and ActionSA. In June 2025 the DA tried to remove him through a council motion, a proposal the council votes on. It failed. In July 2026 the High Court made an interim order (a ruling for now, before the case is finished). It found that he wrongly threw out 13 votes in a council vote. He is also the ATM's 2026 candidate for mayor of Tshwane.

In October 2025 the ATM seconded (formally backed) a motion of no confidence against Mayor Dada Morero. This was a council vote to remove him. The motion was withdrawn in December 2025. We found no later source on the ATM's role. Vuyo Zungula is its 2026 candidate for mayor.

What it has said about the world
Vuyo Zungula, the ATM leader, said this in a debate in Parliament. The debate was about the US decision to stop its aid money to South Africa. He says the US did this because South Africa is giving land back to people who lost it. He warns that the US may act against trade next. So he wants South Africa to sell more to other African countries and the BRICS group, and rely less on the US. In its own words: “We must aggressively expand our trade relationships beyond the USA market.”

Where to look: Debate "THE DECISION BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO HALT AID TO SOUTH AFRICA AND THE RESPONSE THERETO". Mr W M Douglas (MK Party): "We are not anti- West, we are not antiwhite, nor do we have hostility towards Europe, China, Russia, the Middle East or Latin America, because this country and MK are nonaligned". Mr V Zungula (ATM leader): "Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Brics, alliance is open for business."
The ATM said this in a statement, IOL reported. It was answering US President Donald Trump's order to punish South Africa, which named South Africa's new land law. The ATM says Trump was given wrong information about this law. It says giving back land is about the dignity of people who were forced off it. It wants talks with the US, but does not say what our government should do. In its own words: “We call for constructive dialogue that acknowledges the rights of individuals to their ancestral lands and emphasises the importance of addressing the legacies of colonialism and apartheid.”

Vuyo Zungula, the ATM leader, spoke after the US captured Venezuela's president, Nicolás Maduro, EWN reported. The ATM says the US used claims of crime as an excuse to take control of Venezuela's oil. Zungula says this was a plan to change who runs the country. He warns that strong countries now use weak ones that cannot defend themselves. Our source does not say what the ATM wants South Africa to do.

Vuyo Zungula, the ATM leader, said this in a Parliament debate about the US stopping aid to South Africa. BRICS is a group of countries that work together on trade, and South Africa is a member. He means South Africa can sell its goods to these partners instead of relying on the US. He says the US wants Africa to depend on its approval. He wants the BRICS countries to become bigger trade partners for South Africa. In its own words: “Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Brics, alliance is open for business.”

Vuyo Zungula, the ATM leader, spoke in Parliament's debate on closing Israel's embassy. He said South Africa cannot ask the International Criminal Court to look into Israel and still keep normal ties. He asked Parliament to close the embassy and suspend all ties. In its own words: “We cannot as a country refer Israel to the ICC for investigation for what we believe is war crimes and genocide. Yet, on the other side maintain normal relations with Israel.”

Africa Young Parliamentarians Network (AYPN) (International). The network brings together young MPs from African countries. Sunday World says it works for democracy, good government and more young people in politics. So the ATM's leader, Vuyo Zungula, holds a top post in an African network of young MPs that pays for his trips. Sunday World reported in November 2024 that he became its first secretary-general. His register shows the network paid for his trips to its conferences in Ethiopia and Côte d'Ivoire. We could not find out who pays for the network itself.
