Stats SA's labour surveys show that 418,000 more people living in Cape Town had jobs. The number went from 1,425,000 (Jan-Mar 2022) to 1,843,000 (Apr-Jun 2026). That is about 49.5% of the net rise in jobs (jobs gained minus jobs lost) across the eight metros. These numbers are survey estimates of how many people who live in each metro have jobs. They start in early 2022, because that is the first quarter Stats SA's current metro figures cover. They have a margin of error (how far off a survey number could be). Stats SA does not say whether the four-year change is bigger than that margin. The figures do not show what caused the change.
