What does the evidence show?
Why it is Verified
Lost electricity is power the City bought but could not sell, so it earned no money for it. The Auditor-General's audit report calls the R1.87 billion loss material, which means big enough to matter. It says R1.26 billion of it came from errors, negligence, theft, illegal connections, meter tampering and faulty meters. We could not find why the briefing to Parliament gives a higher figure.
