Who funds Al Jama-ah?
Al Jama-ah told the (IEC The Electoral Commission of South Africa. It runs elections. It is independent, so it does not take orders from the government or any party.) about no donations above the disclosure limit, from July 2025 to June 2026. Checked 20 October 2026.

It has no declared donations in any of the IEC funding reports since April 2021.
Money in 2024/25
April 2024 to March 2025, from the IEC's yearly report.
Gifts and fees
- Gifts over R100 000 from one donor, named in the reports
- None shown
- Smaller gifts, R100 000 or less from one donor (names not published)
- R130 900
- Membership fees and levies
- R651 169
Public money (not donations)
- From the Political Representatives Fund
- R5 830 406
- From Parliament and provincial legislatures
- R4 375 965
How the limit worksWhich donations parties must declare
(Party A group of people who stand for election together, with shared plans.) must declare some donations. This applies when one donor gives them more than R200 000 in total in a financial year. A financial year runs from April to March. The limit used to be R100 000. The President raised it in Proclamation Notice R. 275 of 2025. This was published in the Government Gazette on 18 August 2025. So the July to September 2025 report uses R100 000 for donations before that date. A smaller donation is declared once the donor's total for the year passes the limit. The IEC says the Political Funding Act covers each (Registered Your name is on the voters' roll. Registration for this election closed on 7 August 2026.) party, even one with no (Seat A place on the council, held by one councillor. A party with more votes gets more of these places.) in (Parliament South Africa's national law-makers, in Cape Town. It has two parts, the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces.) or a provincial legislature. So the IEC's reports cover each party listed here. Smaller gifts, membership fees and public money are not in these reports. So no rows means no donor passed the limit in these reports. It does not mean the party got no money. The IEC's yearly report shows each party's total of smaller gifts, without names. These are the donations the party told the IEC about, as the IEC published them. We do not compare parties. Checked 20 October 2026.

What it has said about the world
Councils don't decide this. But it shows how the (Party A group of people who stand for election together, with shared plans.) wants South Africa to deal with other countries. Each topic starts with what its record shows: how it voted, what it did and what it said.
Israel, Palestine and the Middle EastAl Jama-ah's MP voted in 2023 to ask for Israel's embassy to close, saying "every trace of Israel must be wiped off our land". It backs South Africa's ICJ case and a boycott of Israel, and calls Hamas "a resistance movement". In 2023 it also asked Hamas to free all hostages if Israel ended the war.8 quotes
“Al Jamah-Ah reminds hon members of this House of their obligation in terms of their oath of office to protect the Palestinian children from genocide”
In Parliament, 29 September 2026
I Ismail-Moosa, an Al Jama-ah (MP (Member of Parliament) A person who sits in Parliament, which makes South Africa's laws. They are not chosen in this local election.), said this in (Parliament South Africa's national law-makers, in Cape Town. It has two parts, the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces.). It was a member's statement, a short speech any MP can make at the start of a sitting. He spoke about Saudi Arabia's national day, where party leader Ganief Hendricks spoke for President Ramaphosa. He means MPs promised, when they took office, to help stop the killing of children in Gaza. He says a court's orders bind Israel.
“Respect for international law and meaningful diplomacy must always trump war.”
Party statement, 2 March 2026
Ganief Hendricks, the Al Jama-ah leader, said this in a party statement. The United States and Israel had just carried out joint military strikes on Iran. International law is the set of rules countries agree to follow. He means talks between countries should always come before fighting. The party called for the fighting to stop at once and for calm on all sides.
“Honourable Ganief Hendricks, Shireen Ebrahim, Raihaan Pietersen and Cllr Jakes Karolia attended the Palestinian Boycott Program in Erasmia this week.”

“He will on Monday lay formal criminal charges against the nine MPs, and others who visited the Zionist Israeli entity”
Party statement, 2 June 2025
Al Jama-ah said one of its leaders would lay criminal charges with the police against the nine MPs who visited Israel in 2025. We found no news of what happened next.
““Israel is an apartheid state and those South Africans – including Parliamentarians–who support it, are therefore complicit and must face the full might of the law,” says Hendricks.”
Party statement, 8 November 2024
Al Jama-ah asked Parliament's Speaker for help to draft a bill, named in its title. Its leader Ganief Hendricks said South Africans who support Israel, MPs included, must face the law.
“Al Jama-ah, like many other socio-political and cultural organisations around the globe, recognizes Hamas as a resistance movement against the oppressive rogue Zionist entity”
Party statement, 11 September 2024
Al Jama-ah said it sees Hamas as a resistance movement against Israel. It praised Riad Fataar, president of the Muslim Judicial Council, who had said he supports Hamas.
“The amendment should have gone further. There is no place for Israel in South Africa, and every trace of Israel must be wiped off our land, South Africa.”
Vote in Parliament, 21 November 2023
Parliament voted on asking the government to close Israel's (Embassy A country's main office in another country. It speaks for its own government there.) and cut ties until a ceasefire. Al Jama-ah's one MP, Ganief Hendricks, voted yes, but said the party wanted more. He said the embassy must be "wiped off the face of the earth", and a legal way found to do it.
“Hamas should release all the Israeli hostages, on condition that Israel immediately ceases the war on Gaza; and withdraws from Gaza entirely.”
Party statement, 6 November 2023
Al Jama-ah asked Hamas to free all Israeli hostages. Its condition was that Israel stop the war at once and leave Gaza completely.
Russia and UkraineIn July 2026 an Al Jama-ah MP was one of five MPs Parliament sent to Russia; the other four were ANC. Its MP also went to a Russian consulate exhibition where BRICS ties were discussed. We found no Al Jama-ah statement on the war itself.2 quotes
“However, with the exception of one MP from Al Jama-ah, the five-member delegation led by the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane are all from the ANC.”
News report, 14 July 2026
EWN reported that Parliament sent five MPs to Russia in July 2026. One was from Al Jama-ah. The other four were from the ANC. The DA and the MK Party said they were not invited.
“the prospects for cooperation between Russia and the Republic of South Africa within the BRICS framework were discussed, including the creation of an independent payment system and a single currency”
Party statement, 22 February 2025
Al Jama-ah wrote this about its MP Shameemah Salie. She went to a Cape Town exhibition by Russia's (Consulate A smaller office of a country in another country. It helps its own citizens and gives visas and passports.), an office of its government. The post says Russia and South Africa talked about working together in BRICS. BRICS is a group of countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The post says these ideas would help build a fairer world with more than one centre of power. It does not say what Al Jama-ah wants South Africa to do.
China and TaiwanAl Jama-ah's leader went to China's National Day event in Pretoria in 2026. In 2024 it met the World Uyghur Congress, which raised concerns about camps holding Muslims in China.2 quotes
“For Al Jama-ah, engagement with international partners forms part of its broader commitment to dialogue, cooperation and South Africa’s role within the Global South.”
Party statement, 1 October 2026
Al Jama-ah wrote this about its leader Ganief Hendricks, who is also a deputy minister. He went to a celebration in Pretoria of 77 years since modern China was founded. The Global South means poorer and developing countries, many in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The party means meeting other countries' officials is part of its work. The post repeats a remark by China's consul general that China is South Africa's largest trading partner.
“Serious concerns were raised surrounding the camps in China where over a million muslims are being detained”
Party statement, 25 November 2024
Al Jama-ah wrote this after its team met the World Uyghur Congress. The Uyghurs are a Muslim people in western China, and the Congress speaks for them. The Congress told the party about camps in China and limits on practising Islam. The post links the Uyghurs to Palestine, Kashmir and Sudan. It does not say what Al Jama-ah wants South Africa to do about China.
The United StatesAl Jama-ah accused the Trump government of hatred of Muslims after the US expelled South Africa's ambassador. It says South Africa must end its reliance on countries "on the wrong side of history".2 quotes
“The world will stand with South Africa and its quest for justice, respect for international law, and also heralding in a new civilisation in the hope America will have a change of heart and join the new civilisation.”
Party statement, 17 March 2025
Ganief Hendricks, the Al Jama-ah leader, said this, EWN reported. The US had expelled Ebrahim Rasool, South Africa's (Ambassador The top person a country sends to speak for it in another country.), after he criticised Trump's movement on a podcast. Hendricks was against the expulsion and accused the Trump government of hatred of Muslims. He means other countries will back South Africa, and he hopes the US will change its mind. The article does not say what he wants the government to do.
“we cannot allow South Africa to become totally dependent on foreign aid all the time.”
In Parliament, 6 March 2025
Shameemah Salie, an Al Jama-ah MP, said this in a debate in Parliament. The debate was about the US decision to stop aid to South Africa. She thanked foreign donors for their help with health care. But she says relying on them lets them tell South Africa what to do. Al Jama-ah wants the government to spend more on health and hire more health workers.
Other countries and groupsAl Jama-ah says US sanctions on Cuba break international law. It says the US "must stop its imperialist ventures" in Cuba, and backs Cuba's right to defend itself.1 quote
“The U.S. must stop its imperialist ventures and interference in the internal affairs of Cuba. We support Cuba’s right to defend its national sovereignty”
Party statement, 28 July 2026
Ganief Hendricks, the Al Jama-ah president, said this in a party press release. The party says US sanctions have hurt Cuba for 60 years and were recently made tighter. It says this has left Cubans without electricity and basic goods. Al Jama-ah says such sanctions by one country break international law. It asks South Africans to give food and money, recalling Cuba's help in the freedom struggle.
